Using secondhand paper materials, ink, and crochet thread, I translated my experiences with grief, motherhood, and femininity into nine handmade visual compositions. While the work was personal and provided a therapeutic outlet, it also served as an experiment in taking intimate and traumatic moments and sharing them with an audience; transforming my complex experiences into something positive that people can observe, enjoy, or even relate to.

The response to these pieces, which were shown at Handmade Toledo in 2017, were positive. Many viewers found them to be peaceful, meditative, and optimistic. The use of Madonna and Child imagery throughout the series allowed the pieces to be specific to my experiences, while still being familiar and approachable to many.
