My MDes graduate thesis, "ope!", addresses the modern and dynamic state of design as one in which designers must unpack complex "wicked problems", do no harm, embrace ambiguity, and navigate an abundance of data and options. Knowing this, the big question is: How might design educators and design students begin to chip away at the enormity of this paradigm shift? This thesis is one part research and theory, and the other a multi-page document meant to help future students navigate their own MDes experience at Bowling Green State University.
"Ope!" lives both physically and digitally. Printed versions are made on demand, and are meant to be highlighted, written on, colored in, and more. The digital version is shared via a given link, and is meant to be altered over time. Therefore, "ope!" is a living document, a reflection of the dynamic times we live in.
